Founded in 1948, the objects of the Society are to promote and encourage model engineering of all kinds, and to bring together people interested in the hobby.

The Society operates a miniature railway in Abbotsfield Park, Chassen Road, Flixton, in the Borough of Trafford, Manchester on most Sundays throughout the year, and on some Bank Holidays, weather permitting. The railway is a continuous circuit of 2200 feet (670 metres) of raised track comprising both 3½" and 5" gauges. It is one of the largest elevated tracks in the country.

The Society welcomes visitors to the track, where train rides are provided for both children and adults at modest fares.

An addition, we are always glad to meet fellow model engineers or interested visitors, and prospective new members will be made welcome if they make themselves known.

Visitors from other societies wishing to run their locos are always welcome. Please bring proof of club membership and valid boiler test certificate for steam locos. The fitting of effective spark arrestors is required at the Urmston club. For further information contact the Secretary, David Crowe on 0161 661 5439 or write to Urmston & District Model Engineering Society, Chassen Road, Flixton, Manchester M41 5DH.
